As of now it is actually capable of targeting itself. Meaning it's the most broken generic destruction spell we have. I decided to put this thread in the buff section, tho, because I also put a buffed version of what it was originally intended as in this post and it's only really overpowered because of a mistake in card text.

Normal Spell Card
Destroy 1 card you and your opponent control.

Quick-Play Spell Card
This card cannot be chained to your own card effect. Select any amount of cards you control other than this card and an equal amount of cards your opponent controls: Destroy them.

Re: Doom Blade
I would agree with this effect, if it's kept a Normal Spell.
This is chainable to basically anything, including your Normal Spell/Trap cards, cards that are about to be destroyed, etc.

Re: Doom Blade
Ah, yes, I didn't realize you could chain it to your own STs. What if you couldn't chain it to your own card effects? Would it be ok then? Or does it really have to be a Normal Spell?

Re: Doom Blade
Wait, I thought that it couldn't target itself since for the same reason Mystical Space Typhoon can't destroy itself.

I think it's because MST selects a target before the effect resolves, so it's not really "on the field" yet. Doom blade's effect, however, activates at resolution, which means doom blade is already on the field.
Re: Doom Blade
thats not right it still targets on activation doom blade has never been able to target itself

It's not really clear because it doesn't have problem solving text. Either interpretation could be right.
Re: Doom Blade
I don't think Normal Spell Cards count as being on the field unless they remain on the field after resolutio, kind of like Swords of Revealing Light vs MST.

You can chain MST to a Dark Hole and destroy it (although pointless, you can still do that)
Re: Doom Blade
I made it!
If it's open to interpretation Ash's interpretation is correct.

Well, does it not being secret overpowered after all not allow it to be buffed? ;P
