what do we use in place of Polymerization?
I plan on making a Fusion Monster archetype soon, so I need this for lore.

The "direct" correspondent to Poly is "Advanced Polymerization". It's the same thing, except you draw a card after.
Some more clear-cut alternatives are Lightning Lab Accident, which is a Trap Version, and The Time and Space Chamber, which at the cost of discard, is used like a Generic Dragon's Mirror.
Don't forget to also check out Elemental Bonding and Ghost Fusion. I'm sure there's more but i forget.

Anything we want, sir.
It's not like "You do not use Polymerization" was ever relevant anyway since you could always just Alternatively Fusion Summon Fusion Monsters and even Special Summon them.
