Fanfic - Echoes of Eternity
Well I wasn't really sure where else to put it so this seemed like an appropriate choice. Note, there is some mature language, suggestive theme, blah, blah, blah, you get the gist. Without further ado...
Note:
- * means the card is custom made
- ** means the card is from the CCG
Yu-Gi-Oh!
Echoes of Eternity

Re: Fanfic - Echoes of Eternity
- Chapter 0:
- Since the dawn of time, humanity has struggled against the limitations placed upon it by the world through evolving, transcend their weaknesses, and defying the nature of the world. Yet humans are intrinsically limited by the range of their visions, the scope of their imaginations, and the nature of their mortality. How could humans ever hope to grasp the chains of eternity?- Α -
- December, 2012 -
- Underground Research Facility -
A man wearing in a highly polished military attire stood staring at a large screen as dozens of people in lab coats attended to the occasional whirring noises of surrounding machinery. The screen displayed a seemingly endless expanse of decrepit buildings falling into ruin. A man wearing tattered robes partially covered by ragged bandages was at the focus of the display, surrounded by a circle of mangled and smoldered bodies with swirling flames cackling by the edges.
One of the scientists turned to address the uniformed man. “Sir, the preparations are finished. We are ready to proceed with operation Ragnarök.”
The man inhaled uneasily and started rubbing his forehead. He retracted to the confines of his thoughts and pondered over the implications of the operation. The name was based on the same prophecy from Norse mythology which foretold of the final battle to end all battles, end all wars, and end the world. The world would be consumed in a fire that would purify all its faults and a new world will rise out of the ashes of the old.
“Director, the convergence signals are starting to fluctuate. If we want to stabilize the dimensional fissure, we have to do it now.”
The director cleared his throat and exhaled deeply. “Gentlemen, never before in the history of mankind has anyone been burdened with such power, such responsibility. We are on the verge of unlocking the secrets of the universe and changing the fate of worlds because of the efforts of heroes. Never forget the sacrifices that must be made for us to realize our dreams.”
After a moment of silence, the director turned to the scientist by his side. “Professor Holtzman, you may proceed with the operation. Send subject seven.”
A section of the screen’s display started condensing and swirling abruptly.
- Ruined City, The Dimensional Fissure -
A man clad in dark mechanical armor walked through the fluctuating space just before it dissipated. The man raised his left arm in front of himself. Strapped on his arm was an ebony duel disk.
The duelist in robes addressed the man that had just appeared. “No matter how many more of you come, I’ll defeat you. I’ll never give up, and I’ll defeat you all!”
The man ignored the duelist’s outburst and activated his own duel disk. The robed duelist did the same causing the field between the two duelists to light up in a holographic display.
Duel Start
Duelist 1: (5/0/0) – 8000
Duelist 2: (5/0/0) – 8000
The robed man drew one card. “I’ll go first by summoning ‘Eternal Firebird – Dawn’!” A majestic bird with crimson-orange feathers that seemed to be lit with some viscous fluid descended upon the field with a flaming swirl. (4/1500/1200).
‘Eternal Firebird - Dawn’ *
Monster | FIRE | **** | ATK - 1500| DEF – 1600

The robed man picked up the top five cards of his deck and inserted them into his duel disk’s graveyard pile. “There were two fire monsters. You lose one thousand points.”
Duelist 1: (5/1/0) – 8000
Duelist 2: (5/0/0) – 8000 -> 7000
“I barely felt anything,” stated the second duelist as he shrugged it off, “You’ll have to do better than that.”
“As you wish,” replied the robed duelist, “I return my firebird to my deck by the effect of ‘Eternal Phoenix – Salvation’ from my graveyard to special summon itself!” A blazing phoenix with radiant yellow feathers erupted onto the field. (6/2100/2500).

“With its effect,” stated the duelist, “I’ll return ‘Bird of Burning Embers’ to my hand. Then I’ll set one card and I end my turn.”
Turn 2
Duelist 1: (6/1/1) – 8000
Duelist 2: (6/0/0) – 7000
The second duelist smirked. “Not bad, but not nearly good enough. I summon ‘Beast King Barbaros’.” A gigantic lion-headed beast with a tangled mass of muscle for a body and a panther’s body for a base materialized. (8/3000 -> 1900/1200).

Turn 3
Duelist 1: (6/1/1) – 8000
Duelist 2: (3/1/2) – 7000
“And you mock my moves?” asked the robed duelist with a hint of amusement. “I activate ‘Trade-In’ to send ‘Eternal Phoenix – Conflagration’ to the graveyard and draw two cards. Next, I summon ‘Bird of Burning Embers’ from my hand.” A swirl of flames cackled onto the field and turned into the shape of an immaterial bird. (4/1000/1800).

Duelist 2: (3/1/2) – 7000 -> 6100

Duelist 2: (4/1/1) – 5100

Duelist 2: (3/0/1) – 5100 -> 8100

(8/3000/1200). Followed by it, a rusting but intricately-designed mechanical dragon burst out of the ground. (8/3000/2000).
The second duelist raised his hand forward. “I enter my battle phase and attack you with both monsters!”
“Response,” announced the robed duelist, “With ‘Phoenix Wing Wind Blast’! I discard ‘Reparation’ to return your ‘Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon’ to the top of your deck! Then, ‘Reparation’ lets me draw one card and gain one thousand life points.”

The duelist picked up the top five cards of his deck and slid them into his duel disk’s graveyard slot. “I count two fire monsters which means both your monsters are destroyed!”
The armored duelist covered himself as both his monsters burst in a scarlet conflagration.
“Now,” continued the robed duelist, “Purification will attack you directly!”
Duelist 1: (2/1/2) – 6000
Duelist 2: (1/0/0) – 7600 -> 5300
Fiery swirls shot out at the armored duelist, burning the surface of their contact. The duelist stumbled back, unsettled by the assault.

The duelist placed his last card onto his duel disk. “I summon ‘Sacrificial Ox’ and tribute it to summon back ‘Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon’!” The mechanical dragon resurrected alongside the two beast-warriors. (8/3000/2000).
The robed duelist tightened in anticipation of upcoming onslaught. “You’ve spent up your hand just to fill your field with beaters. You’re getting desperate.”
“Say what you want, but if my attack goes through, I win this turn!”
“That won’t be happening,” replied the robed duelist as he raised his hand causing his left side set card to reveal itself, “I activate ‘Icarus Attack’ by tributing ‘Eternal Phoenix - Purification’ to destroy your ‘Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon’ and ‘Beast King Barbaros’!” The phoenix burst into a shower of flames engulfing the two targeted monsters in the conflagration.
“I’ll attack you directly with my remaining monster, go nature’s fury!” The reconstructed ogre charged at the robed duelist and skewered him to the ground causing the duelist to shriek out in pain.

Turn 7
Duelist 1: (4/0/1) – 3200

“I activate ‘Call of the Haunted’ to bring back ‘Eternal Phoenix Purification’!” The multi-shaded golden phoenix rose from the depths once more in a fiery spectacle. (8/2300/2900). The duelist slid the top five cards of his deck into his graveyard once more.
“Why didn’t you use it before?”
“I didn’t want to take any chances. Using it on my turn allows me to play through any outcome.”
“Two fire monsters were sent to the graveyard meaning both of our monsters are destroyed.” The two monsters were consumed by a raging torrent of flames. “Then, I summon ‘Eternal Firebird – Dusk’!” A dark, smoldered firebird with bright glowing edges descended onto the field. (4/1200/1800).

The robed duelist brought out the card from his deck. “The mandatory effect of Ascension summons ‘Eternal Phoenix - Salvation’ again.” The phoenix that had just disappeared ascended alongside the swirling flames. (6/2100/2500).
“What? That’s enough to -”
“To end this once and for all. Ascension, attack him directly with the flames of eternity!” The phoenixes flared up into a giant rupture and hailed throughout the field, reducing the surroundings into smoldering piles of rubble.
Duel End
Duelist 1: (2/2/0) – 3200
Duelist 2: (0/0/0) – 2200 -> 0
A voice suddenly shouted out, “Now! Activate the delta-terraforming sequence!”
The armored duelist received the command and pounded on his duel disk causing the disk to emit a blinding glow. The duelist laughed hysterically as his surroundings started shaking sporadically.
The robed duelist turned to him in shock. “You! What are you doing?”
“The final solution – for every action there must an equal and opposite reaction to maintain equilibrium. To maintain universal equilibrium, your world must die for ours to live.”
“What? No!”
“It’s too late now! You thought defeating me in a duel would have defeated our organization. No, your psychic powers were only harnessed as energy. You were the key to initiating Ragnarök. This is only the beginning, the dawn of a new era made possible by our sacrifice.” The duelist continued laughing manically before erupting into a flash of light.
“What the –” The robed duelist was left speechless as the sky around him seemed to be torn apart as if the very fabric of reality was disintegrating. Then, the world was consumed in flames.
- Underground Research Facility -
The director turned off the screen’s display and turned to address the scientist by his side. “Professor Holtzman, what is the outcome?”
“Project Ragnarök was a success. The energy was successfully bonded to the duel disk.”
“Good. As the flames of eternity scorch through the sins of the world, a new dawn rises from the ashes of the old…”
Note, I'll probably be making some changes to this chapter.
